Are Pets Good for Your Health And Your Life?
In my opinion that is a dumb question, because I believe pets are amazing. Caring for a pet can certainly be good for both your physical and mental health.
Bringing an animal into your family provides a loyal friend, companionship and unconditional love.
Companionship
Pets bring so much joy and happiness into one’s lives. One can often find comfort and companionship with a pet when one suffers from loneliness or depression. Adopting a pet often brings a a sense of purpose to ones life.
Dogs enjoy being active and playing all throughout their lives and often keep their pet parents smiling for years and years.
Children
Most every child yearns to have a pet. Even children with disabilities like autism or if they’re just shy can benefit from having a pet. Animals help children in so many ways. Animals can help draw a shy child out of their shell. There are many other benefits of having a pet for a child:
* A pet can be a constant companion for a child.
* Pets are more than just fun, they instill responsibility. They usually require care; feeding, walking and playing.
* Pets are a great way to start a conversation and make friends with other kids.
* Kids will want to protect their animal, and pets as well can provide a sense of protection and security for the child.
Exercise
Pets require exercise and what better way then keeping them fit than taking them for a walk or a run? You and your pet will enjoy all the fresh air, sounds and smells. Not only does your pet benefit but you can reap the rewards of exercise too.
Even if you don’t run you can keep active just playing with your pup and picking up after them. I have a box full of doggie toys and my dog just loves to play and leave them all over the house. We play ball and chase and have plenty of good times playing.
Health Benefits
Studies have shown owning a pet provides many health benefits. Pet owners tend to have lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, stronger immune systems, and generally are healthier. Therapy pets help hospital patients and often recuperate quicker than those without a pet.
Stress
Just the action of petting is pleasant and people tend to feel less stress. Having a pet can help cope with anxiety and deal with certain stressful situations. Pets help people relax and can even improve their attitude.

How many movies have you seen where people have met because of their pet? It’s not just in the movies. Pets can help break the ice when meeting new people. Having a pet can give owners a chance to make new friends.
Animals are social animals and love attention from all kinds of people. They’ll happily run up to people in an attempt to make their own introductions. Conversations may start between two dog owners and a new friendship is in the works.
There’s a reason why dogs are “man’s best friend”. If you’re considering getting a pet for your household you will make a happy home for your pet and you’ll have lots of reasons to smile. Enjoy!
